Darrel Sparkman writes adventure fiction that joins post-apocalyptic survival, romance, and the traditions of the American West. The novel After the Fall debuted in 2007 and was later incorporated into the Apocalypse Chronicles. It follows army courier John Trent through a fractured United States, where isolated settlements, raiders, and uncertain alliances have replaced familiar civic order. Its Ozarks setting gives the story a frontier character even as the catastrophe belongs to speculative fiction. Sparkman’s bibliography also includes Western and romantic-suspense titles, making After the Fall a useful bridge between his genre interests rather than a departure from them. A later edition from Rough Edges Press returned the novel to print for a new audience. Throughout his work, movement across dangerous territory creates the conditions for both action and trust: characters must judge strangers quickly, protect fragile communities, and decide what parts of the old world are worth rebuilding.
