G.S. Fields
G.S. Fields writes science fiction informed by a long military career, technical education, and extensive travel. Under Vanishing Skies is his debut novel, a post-apocalyptic thriller set largely in the Maldives after a solar event leaves Earth’s atmosphere failing. Its central character, Aron Atherton, becomes responsible for a child while political competition intensifies over limited passage to a Mars colony. Fields served in the United States Air Force for more than twenty years, first through the enlisted ranks and later as a commissioned officer. He studied computer science through the University of Akron and completed graduate work in information resource management at the Air Force Institute of Technology. Assignments in Europe and the Middle East broadened the settings and institutional experience available to his fiction. Under Vanishing Skies brings those strands together through communications technology, military organisation, island geography, and a survival story concerned with responsibility when formal systems begin to fail.
