Author: Darussalam
Darussalam is a publishing house rather than a writer. Founded in Riyadh in 1986 by Abdul Malik Mujahid, it issues Islamic texts in English, Arabic, Urdu and other languages from offices in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Britain and the United States, much of its list being translation and abridgement of classical material. Guarding the Tongue belongs to that pattern. The text is a section of Al-Adhkar by Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi, the thirteenth-century Damascene jurist and hadith scholar, gathering what the sources say about backbiting, gossip and slander against what speech is encouraged. Al-Nawawi is the author; Darussalam brought it into English as a short book of its own.
