Dave Edlund
A doctorate in chemistry from Oregon, 90 United States patents and more than 120 foreign ones, over a hundred technical papers on alternative energy: Dave Edlund's working life is hydrogen fuel technology, and the thrillers came on top of it. Peter Savage, his recurring lead, is an inventor and businessman based, like Edlund, in Bend, Oregon, and repeatedly dragged out of it into other people's conflicts. Crossing Savage opened the run in 2014, with Relentless Savage in 2015, Deadly Savage in 2016 and Hunting Savage the year after. Guarding Savage, the fifth, carries him from Oregon to Brunei and into a quarrel over the Pacific with roots a century deep; it took a silver medal for popular fiction at the 2019 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards. Lethal Savage followed, then Valiant Savage in 2020, which sets a Pacific Northwest separatist movement and a sitting senator against him, and Unforgiving Savage in 2021, in which North Korean agents come after a weapon he developed.
