David Fraser is a Canadian scientist whose research helped establish animal welfare as a field linking biology, ethics, and practical care. Understanding Animal Welfare places that science in its cultural context, explaining how ideas about health, emotional states, and natural living shape the assessment of animals’ lives. Fraser is professor emeritus in the Animal Welfare Program at the University of British Columbia.
