David Fraser

David Fraser is a Canadian scientist whose research helped establish animal welfare as a field linking biology, ethics, and practical care. Understanding Animal Welfare places that science in its cultural context, explaining how ideas about health, emotional states, and natural living shape the assessment of animals’ lives. Wiley-Blackwell publishes the book in the UFAW Animal Welfare series, and its second edition expands the discussion to positive experiences, One Welfare, wild animals, policy, and professional practice. Fraser is professor emeritus in the Animal Welfare Program at the University of British Columbia.
