Author: David Livingstone
Two different men are filed under this name. Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa is by the Scottish missionary and explorer who lived from 1813 to 1873, put into a cotton mill at ten, and walked across the continent from Luanda to the mouth of the Zambezi. His book sold enormously when John Murray published it in 1857, made him famous, and funded the expeditions that followed. He named the Victoria Falls, spent his last years searching for the source of the Nile, met Henry Morton Stanley at Ujiji in 1871, and died at Chitambo in 1873, after which his companions buried his heart in Africa and carried his body to the coast. He campaigned hard against the slave trade, and historians now weigh that against the part his reports played in opening the interior to European rule. Terrorism and the Illuminati is not his. It is a modern conspiracy book by a later Canadian writer who shares the name.
