David Lovelock is a mathematician and professor emeritus whose research includes differential geometry and mathematical physics. With Hanno Rund, he coauthored Tensors, Differential Forms, and Variational Principles, a graduate-level treatment that develops tensor analysis and exterior differential forms through problems drawn from geometry and physics. The book moves from transformation laws and algebraic foundations to integration, invariance, and the calculus of variations, with exercises supporting its use by mathematicians, physicists, and engineers. Wiley first published the work in 1975; Dover later issued it in the Dover Books on Mathematics series with an added appendix. Lovelock taught at the University of Waterloo before joining the University of Arizona, where his faculty profile records his emeritus status.
