Author: David Pilling
David Pilling works across historical fiction and nonfiction, drawing especially on medieval Wales, the Byzantine Empire and post-Roman Britain. Raised on a smallholding in West Wales, he developed a lasting interest in the region's castles and the campaigns of Edward I. The Red Death, Siege of Rome and Flame of the West form his Caesar's Sword trilogy. Those novels place a figure from Arthurian tradition in the sixth-century eastern Roman world. Pilling's other writing includes Folville's Law and the historical study Edward I and Wales: 1254-1307. He has also researched the British and Irish civil wars and collaborated with Martin Bolton on fantasy fiction.
