Denene Millner works as a journalist, author, collaborator, and publishing executive across fiction, memoir, essays, and children's books. One Blood, released by Forge Books in 2023, is her first solo novel for general readers. The multigenerational story follows Grace, Lolo, and Rae, three Black women connected through birth, adoption, family secrecy, and changing expectations across six decades. Millner places their private decisions within the history of post-segregation Virginia and later Northern social worlds, keeping motherhood and inherited memory at the center. Her experience includes more than thirty books and leadership of Denene Millner Books, an imprint devoted to stories by and about Black children. One Blood differs from her collaborative projects by gathering its broad family history into a single authored novel. The book's scale reflects Millner's parallel interests as a journalist and publisher: whose stories are preserved, who gets to tell them, and how one generation reshapes what the next understands.
