Tsabary's doctorate in clinical psychology is from Columbia, and she writes about what she calls conscious parenting: the claim that most conflict with a child is the parent's own unexamined material coming back, and that the useful work is on the adult rather than on the child's behaviour. The Conscious Parent was pushed hard by Oprah Winfrey and sold accordingly. Clinicians who share the general emphasis on attachment have objected that the framework makes parents responsible for almost everything, which is a heavy load to hand somebody already struggling. She runs courses and a coaching certification alongside the books.
