E.J. Russell

E.J. Russell writes romance and mystery with speculative elements, often building comic complications from supernatural rules. The Skinny on Djinni follows Hector Gonzales after a technology suspension leaves him navigating without the systems he usually relies on. A wrong turn brings him to a remote restaurant and Rafi Abbas, whose own bad day quickly becomes entangled with Hector’s magical world. Russell’s official site describes her work as romance and mystery with reality optional, while Audible identifies The Skinny on Djinni as her paranormal romance and credits Greg Boudreaux as narrator of the audio edition. The story combines a developing relationship with magical bureaucracy, shifter society, and the collision between human technology and an established supernatural grid. That blend connects the book to Russell’s broader Mythmatched setting, where different kinds of magical beings share interconnected stories. Readers can expect character-led humor, an unusual paranormal premise, and a relationship shaped by the consequences of Hector’s earlier technical choices.
