Eddie S. Glaude Jr. studies religion, political thought, and the experience of Black communities in the United States. He is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of African American Studies at Princeton and previously served as the department's inaugural chair for more than fourteen years. Begin Again: James Baldwin's America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own, published by Crown in 2020, brings history, memoir, biography, and social criticism into Glaude's sustained engagement with Baldwin. His other books include Democracy in Black, In a Shade of Blue, and We Are the Leaders We Have Been Looking For. Glaude is also a former president of the American Academy of Religion.
