Edward Flannery

Edward Flannery, catalogued more fully as Edward H. Flannery, was a Roman Catholic priest who wrote about relations between Christians and Jews. The Anguish of the Jews traces twenty-three centuries of hostility and persecution directed at Jewish communities, including Christian participation in that history. Macmillan issued the original book in the 1960s, and Paulist Press later published revised editions. The current Paulist description presents it as an interreligious study. Its 2004 edition adds Philip A. Cunningham's foreword and material on recent decades. Flannery's clerical perspective is central to the work: the book addresses Christian readers and argues that historical recognition and repentance are necessary to improve Jewish-Christian relations.
