Flavius Josephus

Flavius Josephus (born 37 CE, died around 100) was a Jerusalem priest of aristocratic descent who commanded Jewish forces in Galilee during the revolt against Rome. Captured at Jotapata, he predicted that the general Vespasian would become emperor, was released when that happened, and spent the rest of his life in Rome under Flavian patronage, adopting their family name. He also wrote The Jewish War, a short autobiography, and the polemic Against Apion.
