Elizabeth Moon
Elizabeth Moon writes science fiction and fantasy with a command of military organizations, moral choice, and the demands of unfamiliar worlds. Her experience in the United States Marine Corps and her study of history help explain the attention she gives to leadership, training, and institutional pressure. Moon Flights collects fifteen stories spanning several phases of her career. The volume moves from speculative comedy to darker questions of duty and survival, showing how compact forms let Moon test an idea without the architecture of a full novel. One story, Say Cheese, belongs to the setting of her Vatta's War novels, giving series readers a shorter view of that universe while the remaining pieces range more widely. Night Shade Books first published the collection in 2007 and issued a later edition in 2019. Anne McCaffrey contributes the introduction, placing Moon's shorter fiction in conversation with another major voice in speculative literature. Moon Flights consequently works as both a career sampler and a record of her range beyond long-running sequences.
