Cyril M. Kornbluth
Cyril M. Kornbluth became known as an American science-fiction writer associated with the Futurians and gifted in sharp satirical stories about technology, mass culture, and political power. He wrote independently and in collaboration, especially with Frederik Pohl, with whom he produced novels including The Space Merchants. His Share of Glory, issued by NESFA Press in 1997, assembles all of Kornbluth's solo short science fiction in one 690-page volume. Editor Timothy Szczesuil retained original bibliographic information, including pseudonymous bylines, while Pohl supplied an introduction grounded in friendship and collaboration. The fifty-six pieces include The Little Black Bag, The Marching Morons, The Mindworm, Two Dooms, and That Share of Glory. Because Kornbluth died in 1958 at thirty-four, the retrospective collection also maps a concentrated career that had previously been scattered across magazines and smaller books. His Share of Glory distinguishes his individual short fiction from collaborative work and makes visible the range behind his reputation for compressed, unsettling social speculation.
