Emily Giffin
1972
Giffin practised law in Manhattan and wrote at night. Something Borrowed put a woman in bed with her best friend's fiance and then declined to make her the villain, which is roughly the shape of everything since: ordinary people making a compromise they can nearly justify, and the friendships that do not survive it. All We Ever Wanted sets a photograph taken at a school party against a father, a headmaster and a scholarship boy, and follows what money does to an investigation. She writes from Atlanta and the books sell steadily rather than in spikes.
