Felicity Young
Felicity Young writes Australian historical mystery and is best known for the Dr Dody McCleland sequence. The Insanity of Murder is its fourth installment, published in 2015. Set in early twentieth-century Britain, the novel follows Dody, a pioneering forensic doctor, after an explosion at the Necropolis Railway Station draws suspicion toward her suffragette sister Florence. Chief Inspector Matthew Pike leads the official inquiry while Dody’s medical knowledge directs attention toward a women’s rest home and its secretive treatments. The series began with The Anatomy of Death and continued across several further cases involving Dody and Pike. Young’s rural Western Australian background and nursing experience preceded her fiction career. The Insanity of Murder uses forensic practice, political activism, and the constrained choices available to professional women as connected pressures, allowing Dody’s family loyalty and investigative judgment to pull in opposing directions while their professional partnership develops.
