Author: Frederic Stewart Isham
Frederic Stewart Isham wrote American adventure fiction and historical romance during the early 1900s. Under the Rose, first published in 1903, places courtly intrigue and disguise in sixteenth-century Europe. Half A Chance followed in 1909 from the Bobbs Merrill Company, with illustrations by Herman Pfeifer and a plot shaped by justice, identity, and flight. A Man And His Money appeared in 1912 with illustrations by Max J. Spero; its unfortunate but resourceful Horatio Heatherbloom searches for work before becoming entangled in danger and mistaken judgment. The three novels show Isham moving between period spectacle and contemporary adventure while keeping reversals of fortune at the core of his storytelling. His bibliography also includes The Strollers, Black Friday, The Lady of the Mount, Nothing But the Truth, and Three Live Ghosts, the latter adapted with Max Marcin for the stage. Frederic Stewart Isham is the author’s fuller name, while original pages commonly shorten the byline to Frederic S. Isham in print.
