J.M. Walsh
J.M. Walsh, the Australian writer James Morgan Walsh, produced mystery, thriller, adventure, and speculative fiction under his own name and several pseudonyms. Vandals of the Void appeared in Wonder Stories Quarterly in 1931 before John Hamilton issued a book edition. The space opera imagines rival planetary societies whose trade and political tensions can erupt into conflict, making it an early Australian example of interplanetary adventure. Walsh was already known for mysteries, and the publisher placed the novel in its Sundial Mystery Library despite its science-fiction setting. A 1976 Hyperion Press edition later presented it within the Classics of Science Fiction series. The work should not be confused with Jack Vance's different 1953 novel of the same name or Robert Wilson's 1945 story. Walsh also wrote The Vanguard to Neptune and, as H. Haverstock Hill, The Terror out of Space, though crime fiction remained the largest part of his extensive bibliography.
