Gail Carriger
1976
Gail Carriger writes speculative fiction with an archaeologist's interest in culture, manners, and the systems that make invented societies cohere. Known for the Parasol Protectorate, she later expanded the shared Tinkered Stars universe through teen space opera. Divinity 36 opens the completed Tinkered Starsong trilogy. Its protagonist, Phex, works as a barista on an overlooked moon until an alien hears him sing and recruits him into a galactic entertainment industry where celebrity and religion overlap. Carriger frames visible music, fandom, artistic labor, and found family through a competition story, while the alien Dyesi give success a wider political cost. She published the novel through Gail Carriger LLC in 2023, followed by Demigod 12 and Dome 6. Divinity 36 is accessible as a self-contained beginning but gains direction from its place as book one: Phex's first encounter with manufactured divinity establishes the questions about talent, belonging, and influence that the trilogy continues.
