Gary A. Braunbeck
Gary A. Braunbeck is an American writer of horror, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and memoir whose stories often return to the fictional Ohio community of Cedar Hill. Mr. Hands is the third Cedar Hill novel and presents Lucy Thompson's grief through a wooden doll connected to a powerful creature capable of carrying out vengeance. Braunbeck's preferred text expands the novel and is paired in some editions with Kiss of the Mudman, his International Horror Guild Award winning novella. The Cedar Hill sequence also includes In Silent Graves, Keepers, Coffin County, and Far Dark Fields, allowing characters and consequences to echo across several books. Braunbeck has published novels, collections, and nonfiction, including To Each Their Darkness, which reflects on horror writing and personal experience. His work has received multiple Bram Stoker Awards. Mr. Hands shows his characteristic method clearly: supernatural terror grows from bereavement, moral injury, and the dangerous wish to make suffering answerable to private justice.
