Jonathan Janz teaches English and writes American horror ranging from haunted houses to apocalyptic and creature-driven stories. Children of the Dark follows teenager Will Burgess as family pressure, a dangerous criminal, and an older threat in the woods converge around the Indiana town of Shadeland. Its first edition arrived during 2016 before a revised Cemetery Dance edition; Booklist selected the novel as a top horror title of its year. Janz returned to its world in Children of the Dark 2: The Night Flyers. His other books include The Sorrows, The Siren and the Specter, The Dark Game, and the Raven sequence. Alongside writing, he teaches courses in film, English, and fiction craft. That classroom experience helps explain his attention to younger characters facing loyalty, fear, and responsibility. Children of the Dark balances coming-of-age tensions with escalating supernatural danger, making friendship and family as important as its monsters.
