H. B. Marriott Watson
Henry Brereton Marriott Watson (1863–1921) was an Australian-born British novelist, journalist, and playwright who spent his boyhood in New Zealand before settling into London literary life. He wrote for the St James's Gazette and the Pall Mall Gazette and worked alongside W. E. Henley on the National Observer. Across a career that ran from the late 1880s into the First World War, he published more than forty books, most of them swashbuckling historical romances and adventure yarns. He shared his life with the English poet Rosamund Marriott Watson.
