Harold Bronson is a music writer, producer, and co-founder of Rhino Records whose career joined record collecting with archival reissue work. The Rhino Records Story traces the company from Richard Foos's West Los Angeles record shop to the independent label they launched together in the shop's back room. Bronson studied at UCLA, wrote about popular music for the Daily Bruin, and contributed to Rolling Stone and the Los Angeles Times. He joined the Rhino shop as a clerk, became its manager, and persuaded Foos to develop a label whose early novelty releases eventually led to carefully researched reissues and box sets. Rhino became widely associated with inventive packaging and renewed attention to overlooked recordings. Bronson later wrote further books about British pop and his experiences in the music business. The Rhino Records Story preserves an insider's view of the choices, personalities, licensing work, and enthusiasm that allowed a small countercultural retailer to become an influential record company.
