Harriet Crawley
Harriet Crawley draws on years in Moscow and professional experience in the energy sector for her political fiction. The Translator, published by Bitter Lemon Press in 2023, is a spy thriller set largely in Russia during 2017. It brings together Clive Franklin, a British interpreter, and Marina Volina, his Russian colleague, as they uncover a plan involving undersea communications cables. Crawley uses the work of translation as more than background: language, trust and divided loyalties shape how the characters understand one another. The publisher presents the novel as grounded in her familiarity with Russian life, institutions and business culture.
