Author: Henry Ernest Dudeney
Henry Ernest Dudeney (1857–1930) was an English mathematician and the country's foremost inventor of puzzles, whose problems ran for decades in newspapers and magazines. Largely self-taught, he specialized in geometric dissections, number puzzles, and logic problems, and his name is attached to the hinged square-to-triangle dissection known as the Haberdasher's puzzle. He and the American puzzle-maker Sam Loyd exchanged problems before a falling-out, and Dudeney is still ranked among the finest puzzle creators in the English language.
