Henry Martyn Field worked as an American clergyman, editor, and travel writer whose books introduced readers to places encountered during extensive journeys. From the Lakes of Killarney to the Golden Horn traces a route from Ireland across parts of Europe toward Constantinople, combining landscape, architecture, history, religious observation, and the practical experience of travel. Field studied at Williams College and entered the Presbyterian ministry before taking charge of the New York Evangelist, a position he held for many years. Editorial work gave him a platform for religious and public commentary, while travel supplied material for a sequence of descriptive volumes.
