Henry Turner Bailey

Henry Turner Bailey promoted drawing, design, and handcraft as connected parts of education. Booklet Making: An Art-Craft Problem, issued by the Prang Company in 1912, turns a handmade book into a classroom project. Bailey guides students through choosing a subject, gathering text and illustrations, planning page proportions, lettering, decoration, assembly, and simple binding. His worked example uses Longfellow, but the method transfers to many literary and historical subjects.
