Diamonds at Dinner records her years as a lady's maid to the Countess of Coventry at Croome Court during the 1930s and early 1940s. Written with journalist Tim Tate and published by John Blake in 2013, the memoir follows Newman's progression from dressmaking apprenticeship to the exacting routines of clothing, travel, privacy, and household hierarchy. It also describes Croome's transformation during wartime, when the estate accommodated displaced royalty and supported secret radar research at nearby RAF Defford. Newman joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service while continuing to assist the countess, linking domestic labor to a changing national emergency. Tim Tate's collaborator role shaped the elderly Newman's spoken memories into a continuous narrative. Diamonds at Dinner works as a personal work history and a record of the unequal but interdependent lives maintained behind the formal rooms of an English estate.
