Iris Johansen
Johansen wrote category romance through the eighties and then moved into suspense, where the money and the readers had gone, and has kept going at a book or two a year ever since. The Eve Duncan novels follow a forensic sculptor who rebuilds faces from skulls and who is looking for her own lost daughter, a premise that has now run to nearly thirty books. She writes several of them with her son Roy Johansen, a screenwriter. The output is the point: she is as reliably prolific as anyone in American commercial fiction.
