Barry Hutchison publishes crime fiction as J. D. Kirk and cheerfully admits he never worked out what the initials stand for. He had already written more than 140 books for children, including the Invisible Fiends sequence, whose first volume Mr Mumbles won the Royal Mail Award for Scottish Children's Books in 2011. An Isolated Incident is the eleventh case for DCI Jack Logan: a family of four is found dead after a break-in at a remote house in Glen Coe, and Logan's Major Investigations Team is sent to run the search. Hutchison grew up in Fort William and still lives there, so the series keeps to Highland ground.
