J. S. Raynor is the publishing name used by John Stephen Raynor, a Cheshire-based writer whose own loss of sight informs parts of his fiction. Unexplained disturbances interrupt his effort to establish an independent home, and colleague Suzanne helps him investigate the building’s past. The novel combines a paranormal mystery with the practical perspective of a protagonist navigating without sight. Raynor’s author record also connects him with A Comfortable Death, a work shaped partly by his wife Aleth’s childhood experiences in the Philippines, and later titles involving recurring character Lisa Tiguelo. Blind Fright is more narrowly located in Greater Manchester and draws particular force from the difference between Tonie’s confidence in daily routines and the evidence of a presence he cannot interpret through vision.
