Author: James A Colligan
James A Colligan was a Jesuit priest and writer associated with St. Ignatius Church and the University of San Francisco. A dictionary of English rhymes appeared in San Francisco through the James H. Barry Company, with a 1917 title page and 1918 copyright. Rather than define words alphabetically, Colligan arranged them by terminal sound and added sections on rhyme, words without rhymes, homonyms, and pronunciation. Santa Clara University’s archive also credits him with a 1909 life of Father Magín Catalá. His rhyming reference work received a second edition in 1928 and has since been preserved in public collections.
