Jazz Michaels is the name under which Heather Long first published the science-fiction romance Their Memoriam. The novel begins with scientist Valda Bashan waking inside a biosphere with four men and incomplete memories of the project they apparently accepted. A computerized system tells the group that they must make the habitat function before they can move to another task. Their different temperaments, uncertain past, and restricted environment turn cooperation into both a practical and emotional problem. Their Memoriam opened the two-book Utopia Inc sequence in 2018, followed by Their Sacrifice. Long later revised the books under her primary name, retitling the first volume Paused and placing it in the Time Captive sequence. The underlying story remained focused on Valda, the isolated team, missing time, and a scientific assignment whose real importance emerges gradually. Michaels's brief bibliography therefore represents a distinct publishing identity within Long's larger body of connected romantic fiction.
