Jillian Medoff
1963
Jillian Medoff turns the pressures of work and family into novels driven by competing loyalties. When We Were Bright And Beautiful follows Cassie Quinn as her wealthy Manhattan family closes ranks after her younger brother faces a serious accusation. The novel uses Cassie’s account to examine privilege, memory and the stories relatives construct to protect one another. In 2022, Harper issued the novel. The Brooklyn Public Library then included it on the longlist for its Book Prize. Medoff’s five novels also include This Could Hurt and I Couldn’t Love You More. She earned a BA from Barnard College and an MFA from New York University, while her professional experience in management consulting has informed fiction about institutions and workplace relationships.
