Joanne Harris
Joanne Harris connects food, folklore, memory, and apparently ordinary communities across novels, short stories, fantasy, and cookbooks. The Girl with No Shadow is the United States title of The Lollipop Shoes, the second novel in the Chocolat sequence. Five years after Chocolat, Vianne Rocher and her daughters are living under changed names in Paris when Zozie de l'Alba enters their lives and encourages Anouk's attraction to magic. The book was first published in Britain in 2007, with the American edition following in 2008. Harris continued Vianne's story in Peaches for Monsieur le Curé and The Strawberry Thief. Her wider bibliography includes Blackberry Wine, Five Quarters of the Orange, the Malbry novels, Norse-inspired fantasy, short stories, and cookbooks written with Fran Warde. In this sequel, Harris revisits familiar characters while shifting the conflict toward disguise, influence, and the cost of suppressing a family's inherited identity.
