Joanne Ramos
Ramos was born in the Philippines, moved to Wisconsin at six, and worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and later at The Economist. The Farm imagines a luxury facility in the Hudson Valley where mostly immigrant women are paid well to carry the babies of the very rich under constant monitoring, and it refuses to make anyone in it a villain. Published in 2019, it was read as satire by some reviewers and as reportage by others. The premise is a short step from how the surrogacy industry already operates.
