John Henry Jowett was an English Congregational preacher whose sermons and devotional writing reached readers on both sides of the Atlantic. He trained for ministry in Edinburgh and Oxford, served prominent congregations in Birmingham and New York, and later became minister of Westminster Chapel in London. My Daily Meditation for the Circling Year was published by Fleming H. Revell in 1914. Arranged for every day of the calendar, it pairs short biblical passages with compact reflections on attention, conduct, prayer, fellowship, and service. The daily structure shows Jowett adapting the cadence of public preaching to private, repeated reading. His other volumes include The School of Calvary, The Passion for Souls, and Things That Matter Most. My Daily Meditation for the Circling Year remains characteristic of his practical approach: each entry begins from scripture, develops one image or moral question, and closes before reflection becomes a full sermon, leaving room for the reader’s own application.
