Karen Foxlee is an Australian novelist who writes for children, young people, and grown-ups. Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy is her modern fairy-tale response to The Snow Queen, set inside a vast museum in a city of perpetual winter. Scientifically minded Ophelia discovers a boy imprisoned by the Snow Queen and must test her skepticism as she tries to free him. Penguin Random House published the book for readers aged eight to twelve, describing its focus on friendship, courage, grief, and persistence. It was Foxlee's first novel for children and became an E. B. White Read Aloud finalist. Her other books include The Anatomy of Wings, The Midnight Dress, A Most Magical Girl, Lenny's Book of Everything, and Dragon Skin. Across that range, Foxlee pairs precise emotional observation with settings where ordinary family experience brushes against mystery or magic.
