Kate Douglas Wiggin

Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856–1923) was an American author and educator who helped found the first free kindergarten in San Francisco and campaigned for early childhood education. She is best remembered for Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903) and the sentimental holiday favorite The Birds' Christmas Carol. Her fiction pairs gentle humor with a reformer's affection for children and ordinary people, a voice that made her one of the most widely read American writers of her era.
