Kathleen Barber

Kathleen Barber moved from legal practice into psychological suspense fiction. Raised in Galesburg, Illinois, she studied at Illinois and Northwestern School of Law, then practiced bankruptcy law in Chicago and New York. Are You Sleeping was her first novel and was later retitled Truth Be Told. Its story follows the consequences of a popular podcast reopening a family case and challenging the accepted account of what happened. Hello Sunshine adapted the novel for the Apple TV+ series Truth Be Told, starring Octavia Spencer. Barber’s second novel, Follow Me, shifts attention to social media, public identity and the risks created by sharing personal information online.
