Kelly Quindlen

Late to the Party follows a seventeen-year-old who has never been to a party, kissed anyone or done any of the things her summer is supposedly for, and who falls in with an older crowd and a boy who is also gay.

Quindlen writes queer teenage life without a coming-out crisis at the centre, which is still less common than it should be, and she is precise about the specific loneliness of a friendship group that has outgrown you.

She Drives Me Crazy came next and is lighter.
