Maddy Edwards is a fantasy writer known for several connected sequences, including One Black Rose, Spiral, and Paranormal Public. Paranormal Public opens its namesake series and introduces Charlotte Rollins, who expects an ordinary college beginning but instead arrives at a university shared by students with many kinds of supernatural ability. Charlotte cannot initially perform the magic expected of her, making identity and belonging central to her first term. The novel appeared in 2011 and became the foundation for a long sequence that continues through Elemental Rising, Elemental Shining, Elemental Dawn, and later volumes. As the opening story, it establishes Edwards’s school community, emerging friendships, rival groups, and Charlotte’s gradual understanding of her powers. Paranormal Public is both an entry into Charlotte’s unfamiliar world and the structural beginning of an extended magical-school saga. Each successive Elemental installment develops the conflicts, alliances, and supernatural categories first introduced around her arrival at Public.
