Mark Mazower studies modern Greece, twentieth-century Europe, and international history as the Ira D. Wallach Professor of History at Columbia. The Greek Revolution traces the 1821 uprising and the international forces that shaped the emergence of an independent Greek state. Published in 2021 under the fuller title The Greek Revolution: 1821 and the Making of Modern Europe, the book received the Duff Cooper Prize. Mazower also directs Columbia’s Institute for Ideas and Imagination. His scholarly affiliations include fellowship in the British Academy and membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
