Mark Galeotti specializes in Russian security, politics, intelligence, organized crime, and modern conflict as a scholar and commentator. He directs the Mayak Intelligence consultancy and holds an honorary professorship at University College London's School of Slavonic and East European Studies. Armies of Russia’s War in Ukraine, published in Osprey's Elite series in 2019, surveys Russian, Ukrainian, proxy, and auxiliary forces involved in the conflict through 2018. Adam Hook supplied the volume's commissioned illustrations. The book belongs to Galeotti's extensive military-history bibliography, which also includes studies of Russian special forces, Chechnya, Crimea, and the later invasion of Ukraine.
