Martin Meredith

Martin Meredith built his career as a British journalist, biographer, and historian focused on modern Africa. Nelson Mandela follows Mandela from his youth and move to Johannesburg through the African National Congress, political trials, imprisonment, negotiations, and the presidency of democratic South Africa. Meredith places the individual life within the wider rise and dismantling of apartheid while using written sources and interviews. He worked as a foreign correspondent in Africa before becoming an independent author. His other books include The Fate of Africa, Mugabe, Diamonds, Gold, and War, and The Fortunes of Africa, extending his examination of political leadership, colonial legacies, and state formation across the continent.
