Maurice Blanchot was a French novelist, critic, and literary theorist whose essays explore writing, language, and boundaries of personal experience. The Infinite Conversation gathers extended reflections that proceed through dialogue with figures central to Western philosophy and criticism. Susan Hanson translated and introduced the English edition, which the University of Minnesota Press published in its Theory and History of Literature series. Rather than presenting a single continuous argument, the book moves among questions of speech, plurality, reading, and the relation between literature and philosophy. Its sections consider themes including the name of God, everyday speech, narrative voice, Nietzsche, Heraclitus, and the experience of poetry. Blanchot also wrote the novels Death Sentence and Awaiting Oblivion and the critical works The Space of Literature and The Writing of the Disaster. His prose often replaces linear exposition with fragments, pauses, and recurring questions. That form is integral to his subject: writing approaches absence, otherness, and experiences that resist being turned into a stable conclusion.
