Melody Godfred took her law degree with honours from Loyola Law School and practised as a litigation attorney before leaving to build two businesses: Write In Color, a personal branding and careers consultancy, and Fred & Far, which sells the Self Love Pinky Ring and is the commercial engine behind the self-love message she is known for. The Shift: Poetry for a New Perspective, published by Andrews McMeel in September 2022, is her third book, after Self Love Poetry: For Thinkers and Feelers and The ABCs of Self Love. Its short poems sit alongside line drawings, and most of them turn on a change of framing, taking a difficulty and asking what it looks like from the other side. The collection was nominated in the poetry category of the 2022 Goodreads Choice Awards.
