Michael Chabon

1963

Michael Chabon is a novelist and essayist who also edits collaborative literary projects. Fight of The Century gathers original essays inspired by significant cases from the first hundred years of the American Civil Liberties Union. Chabon co-edited the anthology with novelist Ayelet Waldman, and both contributed to it. Avid Reader Press published the collection in 2020 under the full title Fight of the Century: Writers Reflect on 100 Years of Landmark ACLU Cases; Dave Cole wrote its foreword. Viet Thanh Nguyen, Jacqueline Woodson, Ann Patchett, Neil Gaiman, Louise Erdrich, George Saunders, and many other contributors connect court decisions with personal experience and constitutional questions. Unlike Chabon's novels, the project foregrounds many voices and combines case history, memoir, and civic argument. His work as contributor and co-editor shaped a centenary collection developed in partnership with the ACLU for a general readership.
